Today I am linking up with the
gals over at The Teaching Tribune for a traditional Throwback Thursday.
We were supposed to post one
pic of ourselves when we were in the grade that we currently teach. Then share
when we knew that we wanted to teach.
Well, if you’ve been reading
my posts for any amount of time you know already that I am a rule breaker. I had such a fun time looking for photos that
I had to include more than just one…lol.
This first photo was just
after my 5th birthday, the summer just before I started Kindergarten. I was the flower girl at my Aunts
wedding. Gotta love the 70’s styles…lol.
Here is my Kindergarten
school picture. (The grade I currently teach)
Here at Jr High Church camp I
was already good at telling others what to do.
I wasn’t sure yet what I wanted to do later in life, but I was working
on being bossy an essential teacher skill. Boy, you look beautiful
when you have been living in a teepee for a week…lol.
Once I got to freshmen year
of High School I was convinced I was going to be a dancer. I loved it and spent many hours at the
studio. Then my teacher asked me to
teach some of the classes of the younger students. I loved that almost as much. It lead to my first 'real' summer job.
I taught a summer dance
program for our city recreation department.
I took it totally serious and just loved being with the little ones. This
was the program I made from our first “Recital”. Back in the day before computers, when you
had to type on a typewriter, then
literally cut out clip art and paste it on the paper, then copy again…lol. I had
several parents tell me I should be a teacher that I was a natural with the
kids. This got me thinking. However, I was thinking dance studio owner,
not classroom teacher. All through High school I ran the summer program, in
addition to teaching at the dance studio during the school year, and loved it.
I did enjoy what I was doing
but I was thinking can I really make enough money doing this?? What about when
I have kids and I have to be gone every night at the dance studio??
So, when I went to college it
was to become a veterinarian, I had always loved animals so I figured that
would be a good job, I was a biology
major Freshmen year. Sophomore year I
changed to a psychology major, I was gonna be a shrink, I think I was the one
who needed the help…lol. Junior
year I had Finally seen the light and
realized I had to be a teacher and switched majors again to Interdisciplinary
studies. It was perfect, I could be with
kids during the day, be home by 3:30, have all the holidays and summers off
what could be better…lol. The rest
of the world doesn’t have a clue what a teacher really does!! Nevertheless , I
had made my decision and as they say the rest is history. All kidding aside I love what I do and wouldn’t
have it any other way. I know this is what I was meant to do!
Now be sure to check out the
other throwback Thursday posts!
Thanks for stopping by and I
would love to hear your comments and thoughts!

Great post, Mrs D! So interesting - I love reading the back stories! You look so angelic in your first picture as a flower girl!!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness....love all of the pictures! You and I grew up in the same times! I could tell that just by looking at the colors of the pictures before I even read the 70's. I have some very pretty pinkish-reddish pictures from when I was little. :)
